Tell us about yourself?
Rich, I am 42 years old, have been with my partner for 16 years and we have 2 boys.
How did you get interested in horse racing?
When I was 5 or 6 my granddad would watch the racing on TV on a Saturday and I would watch with him. He took me to a local County Fair when I was 6 or 7 and Red Rum was there, i was Hooked
Most memorable moment?
There are so many, lots stick in my mind from Sea the Stars to Frankel, to Kauto Star or Denman, Seeing Red Rum Watching Harzand win the Derby and meeting Frankie, Many Clouds and so many more.
I have a few, Sea the Stars on the flat and over the sticks it would be Many Clouds, who will be sadly missed.
What could racing do to attract more people?
I think the recent initiative when under 16’s went for free with an adult was brilliant idea, that should be at every race course, all year round. School visits from local schools to watch racing and visit stables may also help attract a younger generation.
You co-run a blog tell us all about it?
I do… Yes, with Charles McGreevy called Arseonlinetips on WordPress. I also run a Peoples Nap Poll, where I select 3 horses for the following day’s racing & the Poll winner is the Nap. On the blog, Charlie selects his picks for the days racing and if we have any that miss the cut, they are included in Final Word. We also write articles, there are many on the blog, From our Sea the Stars V Galileo to Our views on certain aspects of racing! We had almost 12,000 views in 2017
Aims for the future?
Hopefully the blog will grow and that I can provide 3 Furlongs Out with the Interviews our readers want! Personally, I wish good health to my family, as they put up with me!
Give us a few horses to follow?
Wow. I really like Monalee for Henry De Bromhead. Apple’s Shakira could be anything, while Mitchouka has a lot more to come.
Away from racing what do you enjoy?
Hanging out with the Family, I am a passionate Liverpool supporter and I also play guitar(badly!) but I try.
