Top Irish born jockey Noel Fehily has been elected by trainer Jessica Harrington to ride Our Duke in the Cheltenham Gold Cup at next month’s Festival.

Last year’s Irish Grand National star got his season up and running when staying on stoutly to beat the talented novice Presenting Percy at Gowran Park on Saturday afternoon and is now as short as 7-1 for the feature race at the festival.

Harrington’s stable jockey Robbie Power has ridden Our Duke on each of his 10 starts over jumps to date, but as he is due to ride reigning champion Sizing John on his reappearance to Prestbury Park, trainer Jessica Harrington astutely moved quickly to secure Fehily’s services in the saddle.

Harrington stated to media sources: “Everything is good this morning (after the race) and the plan is for Noel Fehily to ride Our Duke in the Gold Cup at Cheltenham, providing Sizing John gets there and Robert rides him.

“I was delighted with him (Our Duke) yesterday. It was brilliant to see him do that. “I’m very lucky to have to the two of them, but we’ve got to get them there now.”
