Last night Goffs sale produced a record breaking top lot for the sale when a son of Malinas called Lecale’s Article went for 320k Euros after being knocked down to David Minton bidding for Highflyer bloodstock.

I spoke to Highflyer this morning and they expressed their delight at being able to purchase the gelding who, I am informed is going into training at Seven Barrows with master trainer Nicky Henderson.

2nd Top Lot was knocked down to Kevin Ross Bloodstock for 260k Euros. Coeur Sublime a compact gelding by Elusive Pimpernel. This horse is a lovely mover and looked as if had done plenty of work, I would be less than candid if I said I was surprised, nothing against the horse it’s just IMO there were better more robust substantial models at this sale.

The Third top lot on the evening came somewhat as surprise to me and that was Quoi De Neuf, a son of Anzillero who was knocked down to Evan Williams for 180k Euros, a sleek well-made individual who to my eye is a moderate walker but has the look and the makeup of a staying chaser in the making. Given the fact that Williams has gone to this price for the gelding I suspect that the purchase will be for the Rucker family with whom Evans has strong links and would be a major contributor to the Evans yard. The Colours are well known in England and in particular round the South West Point to Point scene. I think it’s highly probable that the horse will be put out to summer grass now and we will see him sometime in the Autumn in a NHF race, but certainly won’t come into his own until presented with an obstacle probably over 20f plus, given the stamina in the pedigree Chepstow in October would be a perfect starting point

Of the horses I Previewed yesterday At The Acorn sold best at 150k Euros. I think he presented himself very well and I will endeavour to find out who his new connections are and future plans as I am really keen on the horse as an Individual but not as keen as I am on Needhams Gap who was knocked down to Gary Moore Racing. I am sure Gary will be licking his lips at the thought of seeing this horse over fences sometime in the future.

Personally, I am that impressed with his point form, looks, personality and confirmation I can see him appearing at the bigger tracks in the autumn away from the Fontwell and Plumpton scene that Moore does so well at…Get Him In your RP tracker now

Southern Sam, who should have beat Needhams Gap in his point was knocked down to Gerry Hogan Bloodstock for 105k euros and looked every bit as good as his point conqueror in doing so. This is another definite for your RP tracker…It wouldn’t surprise me at all to see the two clash again over fences somewhere in the future

In the coming days I will speak to more of the agents involved and find out the training plans in more detail and will post a final review before moving on to the more substantial task of Doncaster Goffs UK Spring National Hunt Sale.
