DETTORI HAS ANOTHER CRACK AT DERBY SUCCESS
Curragh based handler Dermot Weld has only Hazapour (14/1) declared for the Investec Derby on Saturday week.
With Wield’s dependable stable jockey, Pat Smullen presently on the side-lines, he has been implementing the policy of using the best jockeys available however jockey Declan McDonagh has been the principal beneficiary in recent weeks.
The Shamardal colt, who is from the same blood-line as Weld’s 2016 Derby winner Harzand, booked his Epsom ticket with an imposing victory in the Derrinstown Derby Trial at Leopardstown earlier this month. He is 14/1 with most betting firms for the Epsom Classic.
The Dettori’s agent, Ray Cochrane, said: “I can confirm Frankie rides Mr Weld’s horse in the Derby. It’s a great ride to get. He looked impressive in winning the Derrinstown, which is always the best trial in Ireland. He looks an exciting horse.”
The 14/1 odds currently available with most firms is serious value, as on the day it is anticipated to be much shorter, perhaps even halved in price.
