A new racing club, The Trinity College Horse Racing Club, has been launched for Trinity College Dublin Students and Alumni.

It offers many benefits including the chance for both past and present students of Trinity College to become owners of their own racehorses. Members pay in a cost-effective fee and in return they receive stable visits, monthly updates and a share of prize money won by the horse. Racing club members also get the opportunity to experience going racing to cheer on a horse that they own with their friends, running in the colours of their college or alma mater.

The Trinity College Horse Racing Club aims to introduce students and former academics into the world of horse racing. 60% of racehorses trained in Ireland are raced in some form of co-ownership. This helps share the costs and increase the fun of the experience, even on a shoe-string budget. Joining Trinity College Horse Racing Club is not going to break the bank.

The horse racing club of Trinity College, Dublin has been set up by a committee of the next generation of horse owners in their twenties that include Jack Cantillon, Syndicates.Racing, Pierce Dargan, Blackrock Racing Syndicate, Jess Stafford, Thurloe Thoroughbreds, Finlay Dargan, Equine MediRecord, Kate O’Brien, Rowan Osborne, Katie Mullins and Michael O’Boyle of the Trinity College Horse Racing Society. One of the founders of the racing club is Jack Cantillon, who had previously set-up the Trinity Horse Racing Society, that has become the largest student horse racing society in Europe.

We spoke to Jack about his thoughts of venturing into ownership with trinity scholars;

“We are trying to make accessible and grow our wonderful sport while allowing people the chance to reconnect with their university. Horse racing doesn’t need to cost the world and there is no sport to be close to. If we can find a winner along the way, all the better.”

Cantillon is merely one of the several recognised faces in the thought-process of this club, another familiar face is Pierce Dargan founder of Equine MediRecord; Dargan has already dipped his toe efficaciously in racehorse ownership with the sensational Blackrock Racing Syndicate.

It’s evident to see Dargan has high-hopes for the new racing club when speaking to us;

‘I have had been very fortunate this year with my syndicate. But the real enjoyment has come from being able to share the experience with friends. With the strength of the Racing Society in Trinity, I think this club is the perfect way to get young people to have their first experience of horse ownership while having a great racing experience with their friends’ asserted Dargan.

The Trinity College Horse Racing Club are now accepting members; please get in-touch with them at [email protected] to express your interest and they will be more than happy to give you further information on the membership packages and privileges.
