Warrenpoint based trainer Leanne Breen recently acquired 7-year-old ‘Ticks The Boxes’ from a claiming race at Laytown on Wednesday afternoon.

The son of Fast Company was well punted throughout the afternoon on the beach – from being as big as 9/2 he was supported into the 11/4 favourite though this ex-Brian Ellison trained gelding failed to back up the betting expectations having to settle for a fourth place position in arrears of the easy winner Sir Ottoman.

It was apparent to see from the commencement of this seven furlongs race - Ticks The Box loathed the beach exterior; numerous jockeys compared it to being as hard as the road; conclusively not to everyone’s liking - even though he didn’t appreciate the ground, he still acquitted himself commendably to assume he was one to take out of the bizarrely run race.

“When beaten the jockey on-board wisely jockey didn’t give him a hard time of things – there will be other days for this capable horse”.

Thus far Ticks The Boxes has won six races; five of them came on the all-weather surface decisively this capable thoroughbred has a bias for the artificial surface; that element of things will be music to his new go-getting trainer Leanne Breen’s ears - she has been busy all summer accruing a strong squad for the imminent winter series at Dundalk stadium and this horse will fit perfectly into her plans.

Breen spoke to us on her delight of winning the claim for Ticks The Boxes at Laytown; “He is a fit and ready to run. I will do my bit do eke out more improvement in him. He appears very straightforward and I will keep things unpretentious with him, targeting him to winning as much as possible at Dundalk Stadium this winter is the plan-of-attack.

I want to keep him within my yard though I am prepared to sell him or lease him out to potential racing clubs or syndicates; he is a fun horse who will be run regularly this winter, which owners will love. Everyone wants a winner at Dundalk, with a bit of luck I can get this fellas head in-front before long” asserted Breen.
