ONE TO NOTE
County Meath based jockey Jonathan Moore nominated Bread and Butter as the most well-handicapped horse in the Gavin Cromwell yard in his recent interview with Betdaq.
That was quite interesting to meas I have already noted this son of Bread And Butter by Westerner (GB) out of Wells Diamond (IRE) as a possible handicap blot after his eye-catching effort at Gowran Park racecourse on Saturday, 7th March.
Bread and Butter made more than a few ‘silly’ errors, which added up throughout the extent of the 2m.4f race yet the manner he quickened up from a unfavourable hold-up position really made me sit up, and take note for imminent entries in the summer. In that above-mentioned race he really seemed menacing cutting his way through the field enter the last few furlongs; his lack of fluency at the fence ultimately blew his chances of winning – having to settle for second place at the finish wasn’t perfect but give massive assurance for future entries with him.
Next time out at Downpatrick; his most recent race he went off a well-punted 9/2 shot in a 2m.2f race, understandably momentum was high enough for him to go close given how attention grabbing his last effort was nevertheless he didn’t win - he did finish much better than the fifth place would advocate - Bread and Butter was held up over a trip on the face of it shorter than required – when he went to make his race-winning move he was seriously hampered by another, given by that time the front few had kicked clear the jockey on-board astutely didn’t given his mount a hard time when it appeared implausible for him to get on terms; as the old saying goes he was all dressed up with nowhere to go.

Is this a concern for me? Not at all, this horse is showing improvement every run, and I feel the faster summer ground will really be the making of him – It will be interesting were trainer Gavin Cromwell decides to send this horse; my guess is next time he is entered at Downpatrick he will win with simplicity; perhaps winning a few races in quick succession is likely to happen prior to the assessor in-due course finally getting his measure.
The Gavin Cromwell trained Bread And Butter is one of the most favourable handicapped jumps horses presently in-training in Ireland in my humble estimation.
