Win, or lose the champion jockey title this year – it has been an extraordinary season for jockey Shane Foley no matter what way you look at things.

The rider predominantly stations himself influential trainer Jessica Harrington and he has really demonstrated his worth this worth for her - winning on horses who looked all but beaten and getting placed ones who never stood a chance from the onset. At this late on stage of the flat season, Foley and Colin Keane are head-to-head wrestling for the coveted champion jockey title, neither of them will be getting beaten by the deficiency of determination or effort; it is a shame there can only be one champion.

On Sunday afternoon at Naas, Foley has a great book of engaged rides, the bulk of them are well-fancied in the betting markets and it is a possibility he will get more than one winner nevertheless there is only one that I am genuinely attracted to from a value betting perspective. The Gavin Cromwell trained YAFORDADOE is the horse in question, this is an outside ride for Foley on this thoroughbred trained by Gavin Cromwell – down through the years Foley and Cromwell have merged with many successes, the duo are not strangers with each other and it would not be a shock if this horse put his head in front this afternoon.

This son of Zebadee has been running with a fair level of consistency of late over the obstacles even though his current handicap mark of 77 on the flat appears far too lenient to be left alone and is well worth a huge mention in a race of this calibre.

Last time he ran on the flat was two runs back at Cork racecourse, he was given a courageous hold-up ride by Gary Carroll over the distance of one mile – he finished the race off with a real head of steam to recommend the step up trip this afternoon was the most obvious move. Foley will be expected to hold-up this horse at the back off the field for most of the race and pounce late on with one late thrust close to the line. The current betting odds of 8/1 appear more than substantial to me taking his previous form into consideration.
