Friday 23rd October

Our editor Darren Connolly has a reasoned selection for every race at Dundalk stadium this Friday evening.

4.30 BAY OF SKAILL (17/2) This Joseph Murphy trained horse come with plenty of risks, he can barely be considered a dependable customer nonetheless her last two placed efforts in competitive handicaps must give her some sort of chance now running in claiming company – it wouldn’t be a surprise if she was to run very well with all things considered.

5.10 NEVER BACK DOWN (6/1 NAP) Not the most memorable turf campaign for this Ado McGuinness trained horse; this season has almost been a wash-out for this kodiac sired horse nevertheless his last three runs on this artificial surface he has been gradually building up a head of steam to bring him strongly into the calculation this evening. Leading apprentice Gavin Ryan is in the saddle; it will not be defeated by the effort in the saddle anyway. Lovely handicap mark.

5.45 HYDE PARK BARRACKS (5/1) Not the main superstar in the Ballydoyle operation despite the fact that he is one that should not be omitted in this weak handicap which conceivably would not take much winning. Put a line through his horrendous effort recently, he reared in the stalled and almost startled himself to bolting his chances away from the commencement. I like his chances of losing his maiden tag this evening. The handicapper has given him a right chance.

6.15 CLOUDLAND (18/1 E/W) This Godolphin owned horse did not set the world alight on racecourse debut at this venue a few weeks ago; sheathing home in 7th place, leisurely There was not much to note about the low-key debut though on second start this Friday for the soon to be retired trainer John Oxx I’d envisage he could fair a brave bit better with that all-important initial outing under his belt. Jockey Niall McCullagh remains loyal. I would not rule out a much better run from tis well-bred horse.

6.45 AISLINGS SECRET (33/1 E/W) Trainer Keith Clarke is not given the respect he deserves; he is a handler who always appears to go under the radar even when he does have a winner. Last time spotted this Patrick Caulfield owned horse ran well below form at this venue – I would draw a line through that poor endeavour and focus on her earlier rock-solid form at this track. Connections have always held this horse in high-regard and she is still a 16 race maiden, I fancy her to losing that tag before long and the reservation of title chasing jockey Shane Foley in the saddle gives me more buoyancy for a big run this Friday night. Down in trip and Tongue strap on for 1st time could eke out that little bit more.

7.15 TOORA LOORA (17/2) Started her career of with a couple of really eye-catching efforts but has seemingly gone of the boil from then – from time to time filly’s take a while to get their form back but on the pick of her best form she has an outstanding chance of making her presence felt in this winnable race. Trainer Jessica Harrington has her team in sparkling form for more confidence to this horses’ chances of winning or going remarkably close. All-weather debut this evening could prove a different horse on this surface.

7.45 PARTY SEASON (5/2 NB) Mammoth step forward from mediocre debut when finishing a rock-solid third place at Listowel last time out, that was a really eye-catching effort and if this Aidan O’Brien trained horse can build on that effort on his all-weather debut he must rate a serious danger to all. Market clues will be crucial.

8.15 BELTED (33/1 E/W) This James McAuley owned horse has shown modest enough form in maidens barely looking like a superstar yet running well enough to recommend he was more of a handicapping prospect in due course. This race is diabolical, nothing really stands out as a real strong competitor therefor a big priced winner cannot be ruled out with any confidence – it is the sort of race you could run five time over, and get a different winner each time. Bar his last run Belted must be given a chance of getting involved in a poor race of this calibre. Significantly up in trip and Makes handicap debut, I would not rule out a big run.
