Exclusive blog from Armagh based trainer Adrian McAllister

Due to the snow and frost we had a slow start at the beginning of last week and were only able to work the runners.

We had one runner on Wednesday at Fairyhouse with Elzaa in the Mares Maiden Hurdle. She had been on great form all week but unfortunately the ground was too heavy for her. She travelled well to the third last and at that point had given her all and could do no more. After the race she came in very distressed.

“She is that type of filly which just keeps going until she has nothing left”.

At the end of last week, I moved the rest of my horses up to Dr Gillespie’s yard in Tynan. It is a great yard with excellent facilities which includes 24 boxes and 3 ½ furlong sand gallop. In the past Dr Gillespie has trained plenty of winners out of this facility so hopefully I can do the same.

I’ve entered one horse called ‘Well Why Not’ for Dundalk on Friday Night and hopefully will run in the Fillies Maiden which is over a mile. She is in very good form although personally I think that the mile is too short for her, but I need to get her a race and hopefully with a bit of luck she gets a good run.

Armagh point to point is on this Saturday

On Saturday the local point to point is on in Armagh and which I hope to run ‘Try It You’ in the hunt race. She is a lovely mare by ‘Scorpion’ and this will be her first run. Let’s hope she gets around safe and gets the experience under her belt. She will be a good mare to have for the rest of the season to run in the Mare’s Races.
