Dougie Costello was born in Galway, Ireland in 1983. He is fortunate enough to being one of the few professional jockeys to have won at the top level in both the national hunt and on the flat. Most recently the down-to-earth rider hit a colossal milestone of 600 career winners, and he is nowhere near fished yet. That major accomplishment sort of went under the radar for whatever reason but we are not going to let it go by without congratulating our good friend.

Costello is one of the most respected figures in the sport, and a proper role-model for the younger jockeys coming through the ranks. It is well recognized he made the switch over from National Hunt to riding on the flat for the reason that he felt it was better equally financially and for career longevity, but he has always maintained if the right opportunity arose he might take out the jumps licence again – but at the minute he is more than contented to ride on the level.

Dougie Costello has the making of several best-selling books when he retires nonetheless till then we are more than happy to see him banging in more winners on the racetrack. He is one of the best and deserves plenty of success.

Can he next reach the milestone of 1000 winners? I wouldn’t bet against it.
