Our editor Darren has given us his reasoned selection for every race at Tramore races on Saturday evening.
The opening race on the card (4.20pm) is a fiendish tricky 1mile 4furlong contest, numerous contenders in here have claims of some sort. The market leader TOOREEN KATIE (4/5) has the most convincing form based on her listed placing effort, she certainly needs respecting however I deliberate she is not as immense a certainty as the betting would suggest. My eyes are automatically drawn to the Dermot Weld trained ZARENA (11/4) who has been running consistent enough of late, he wouldn’t need to improve much more to be in the reckoning, she looks a progressive. Another horse in this race who could go well at a bigger price is ENDLESS TANGENT (9/1) who very much looks the unfinished article.
Willie Mullins has an exceptional record with his small number of flat runners, and I think his entry in the 4.50pm race MAZE RUNNER (4/1) is better than the bare form of late. This unexposed 3-year-old ran twice at the recent Galway festival, running well in one of the races and the other not going a yard however it’s is too premature in his career to write him off, also this race lacks any strength or depth, he easily could be seen to a better effect on a track that could perhaps suit him better. Another rival who needs serious consideration is REMMY D (9/2) who is owned by the Nick Bradley syndicate, this horse has run numerous creditable races in defeat, if putting his best foot forward could go close, as he has the form in the book to be involved.
The Dermot Weld trained warm order favourite BALIYAD (1/2) is the obvious starting point for the 5.20pm race based on what he has raced against to-date however I am not swayed he is as genuine as he seems. On many occasions he has had a chance to shed his maiden tag, though appears to lack another gear, though it’s still foolish to underestimate however I am looking value, and I have opted against the favourite to take a chance on the Tracey Collins trained CALGATH 6/1 who is on something of a recovery mission, as last time out at Naas racecourse his run was too bad to be true, prior to that flop he had been signifying it wouldn’t be too long before he shed his maiden tag. This race isn’t full of world beaters, leaving it more open than the better would advocate. There defiantly is other value angles against the favourite in here.
The 5.20pm race is a race of opinion, as there is various form angles to work on. Personally, I think the Gavin Cromwell trained A PLACE APART (11/2) has an exceptional chance of success. The last two runs he has had in quick succession have both been very encouraging, and the stable visibly seems to be in great form to bolster the confidence further. Another horse to note is A FEW BOB SHORT (4/1) who has been holding his form very well however seems tricky for win purposes but looks more than capable enough of picking up a race or two of this nature.
BRONAGHS BELLE (5/4) Is trained by the champion trainer Willie Mullins and owned by Co. Down business man Sean Sweeny. The 3-year- old is the market leader for the 6.20pm race. This horse has been running very well since stepped up in trip most recently putting in a solid performance at Galway finishing a solid 2nd place, giving the impression there was much more improvement to come. He is very much the one to beat in this ordinary race, on route to bigger assignments. If our selection was to flop his lines I think John Kiely trained DECISION TIME (5/1) has enough potential to pick up the pieces.
The 6.50 race, my eyes drawn to the circumstance that better known as a jump jockey, Rachel Blackmore is taking the ride here on AWAYINTHEWEST (6/1) This horse was a good 3rd place in a better race at Ballinrobe races recently, also it has a nice swing at the weights with a few opponents to be extra competitive. If our selection fails to fire I think the Emmet Mullins trained TORNANDO WATCH (7/1) has solid enough credentials to be a factor, on the back of numerous solid efforts.
Trainer Boot’s Madden has been enjoying a purple patch most recently with his inform team, and he has another clear chance in the finale of the evening. With AA BEE SEE (13/2) who is going up in trip, which is expected to suit. Has did nothing but improve the last few months and likely to be still ahead of the handicapper. The more rain the better his chances. Another horse at a bigger price who has a squeak is INIS MEAN (12/1) who ran with adequate promise at Galway to suggest his winning turn wasn’t too far way
